You don’t often get to meet a kookaburra at such close quarters and with such a determined look on his face. I think this one is a baby. He arrived on our verandah one morning at breakfast and spent most of the day fending off other birds whilst he cooled his tail feathers in the bird bath. There’s definitely a card in the future waiting to have his face on it.

Maybe a Cape Plumbago flower would look nice in a ‘Mothers Day’ design. Beautiful colours: I love the dark blue highlight on the petals.
